Position :  Business Manager – Civil and Building Section

Department:  Technical

Reports to :  CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Date:  August 4, 2014

Job Objective

To oversee the operations of the Building and Civil Engineering Department for execution of projects and overall profitability and sustainability.

Principal role

To manage and motivate staff, schedule and allocate resource to projects and oversee day to day running of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

A.  Administration

1. Formulates, implements and revises policies and procedures

2. Supervises departmental teams

3. Ensures staff development for achievement of personal and corporate objectives

4. Motivates, coaches and mentors employees

5. Facilitates employee requirements for performance of their duties

6. Continuously oversees inventory management (Tools, equipment)

7. Management and safe custody of essential company records

 

B. Projects Management

8. Prepares project budgets for approval before execution of the projects

9. Conducts budgetary control by comparing budget against actual project spend

10. Prepares schedule of works and ensures adherence

11. Allocates necessary resources (People, materials, finances, equipment, time) for execution of projects

12. Plans all project logistics and liaises with relevant departments for execution

13. Ensures delivery as per customers’ requirements and stated specifications

14. Oversees the Quality control Audits and obtains and actions on QC recommendation

15. Ensures timely and comprehensive conclusion of project works in accordance with the work schedules

16. Commissions projects and ensures formal  customer sign-off for all completed works

17. Manages the Defect Liability Period and ensures timely corrective action on defects that may arise

18. Oversees preparation of aftersales

19. Ensures aftersales service to customers in liaison with sales and marketing department

 

C. Financial Management

20. Prepares annual operating budgets on set deadlines and submits for approval

21. Adheres to all financial policies and procedures

22. Ensures cost management strategies are implemented and adhered to by all departmental staff

23. Ensures timely preparation of purchase requisitions

24. Supports credit management function by ensuring completion of jobs, sign-off of appropriate documents for collection of retainer sums.

 

D. Strategic Focus

25. Participates in strategic planning forums and ensures timely execution of strategic action

26. Ensures succession planning for the department for long terms HR requirements

27. Consistently evaluates space requirements and advices on additional space acquisition and optimisation

28. Represents the company in industry forums as necessary

 

E. Any other duty as may be allocated from time to time
